George Williams, born in Alabama in 1833, and his wife Mary Ingram Williams, born in Kentucky in 1828, settled in Marion County between 1850 and 1860. They were the parents of six children, all of whom were born in Arkansas. They were: Lucinda; Josiah; Mary; Elbert; James and George. George was born just after his father was murdered in 1862. Both daughters married Bakers; Josiah married Louisa _________; James married Arkie Dalphia; George's wife is unknown; Elbert married Mary Davenport, who became well-known as a midwife in Marion and Searcy Counties. Read the attached article of this beloved character.
Not too much is known of later descendants of this family. James was the father of twelve children: Mary, John, William, Noma, Frank, Walter, Oval, Roy, Myrtle, Everette, Otis and Otan. Josiah was the father of four: Troy married Glena Baker; Clyde; Ernest; and Nellie. Elbert was the father of seven: Lillie married Burt Robison; Hez married Violet Rice; Elizabeth married Clarence Dillard; Vernon died young; Elmer married first Ethel Cooper and, after her death, Sallie Curtis; Frank married Lena Dillard and Hazel married Troy Webb. Lillie, Elmer and Hazel still live in Marion County.
Looking back to the wife of Elbert, Mary Davenport Williams, at age 72, gave a story to the Arkansas Gazette on which she said she stopped counting the babies delivered by her when she reached 600, never losing a baby, and only one mother -- her own daughter-in-law Ethel, but that a doctor was also in attendance. This is a record many doctors of our present time could be proud of and one which her brother-in-law George could not beat. His medical practice was in Texas until his death.
