Elisha Melton and his wife, Elizabeth Gilley Melton, were the parents of William T., James B., John, Frank, and Jolly. The Meltons lived in the Cowan Barrens community.
William T. Melton married Elizabeth Sims, daughter of William Argile and Mary Jane Ham Watts Sims. The Meltons were the parents of Russell, Garland, Marvin, Euna, Oran, and Oscar. They remained in Cowan Barrens on the farm until the older children could no longer receive adequate training in the country school. They then moved to town and the children entered the old Yellville High School.
Russell married Florene Phillips and their children were: a girl (name unknown) and Russell, Jr. Russell taught for many years and was otherwise active in the field of education until his death.
Garland married Josephine _________. He was an optometrist at Fayetteville, Arkansas. His children are: Garland, Jr., and one whose name is unknown.
Marvin married Huldah Patterson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will Patterson of Summit. They were both teachers. Huldah died as the result of a car wreck. Later Marvin married Loree _______. Marvin was killed when his plane crashed.
Euna married Zol Pulliam and they had two children. They have lived in Jonesboro, Arkansas, for many years. Oran and Oscar live in Jonesboro and have been in business for many years.
James B. Melton married Nancy Reed, daughter of Crayton and Martha Ann Hudspeth Reed. Their children were: Arthur and Aud. Arthur married Minnie Carson and their children are: Cyrll, who married Gladys and Helen, who married Cecil Watts. Aud married Myrtle Dean and their children are: Lucian and Lena (twins). Lucian married Della Duggins and their children are: Carol Dean, Mary Ann, Linda Sue, Kay, Richard, Donald, and Terry Lynn. Lillian married Ulis Wood and their son is Jimmy Lynn. Her second husband was Robert Arnold. Both Arthur and Aud are deceased.
John Melton married Famie Reed, sister of Nancy, and their children are: Iva, who married William Gilliam; Romie, who married_________; Emie, whose wife was Biffel Carson; Violet, widow of Ollie Tucker; Edith, who married Jewell Doshier and Arddie, wife of Mark Stubbs.
Frank Melton married Minnie Callahan. Their children are: Omer, who married Pauline Raby; Erma; Verna; Doyne, who married Bernice Hall; Ed, who died in service; Lois, wife of Mason Burrow; J. D.; Ebb; Sybil and Ruth who died young.
