The McEntire family came to Arkansas in 1846. Champion McEntire and his wife, Sarah Walters McEntire, were born in North Carolina. They lived in Yellville, Arkansas, for one year before moving to Bruno. Champion died there in 1879 and Sarah died in 1888.

During the Civil War the family lived in Greene County, Missouri, because the father was a Union sympathizer, but came back to Bruno after the war. Champion owned a 238-acre farm and was well-known throughout northern Arkansas. The children of Champion and Sarah were: John, who died at Salt Lake City; James, who was killed while with Price's Army on his Missouri raid; Lawson, killed in the Mountain Meadow Massacre; William P.; Joseph, who died in 1873, was a farmer in this county and a soldier in the Union Army; Rachel D., the wife of Dr. Elam.

Champion McEntire's oldest son, John, was the father of William Champion, who married Winnie Suggs. Their children are John, Frank, Wallie, Oscar, Charley and Ernie.

William C. McEntire was born in North Carolina and came to Arkansas with his parents. At the age of 21 he enlisted in Company I, 12th Texas Cavalry and served for four years. After the war, he located in Williamson County, Texas, where he lived for a short time. After coming back to Arkansas, he married Sarah A. Cash (born 1824). They had eight children: Namely, Pat O., Sarah A., Thomas, James, Lorenzo, William L., George M., and Turner.

William C. owned a fine farm of 160 acres, a good mill and a cotton gin.

Arch McEntire, youngest of the Champion McEntire children, married Tempe Casey. They were the parents of John, Joe, Fate, George, Grove, Maude and Etta. John married Hernander Smith and their children are: Onimus; Bernice; and Beatrice (Jim), who is deceased. Joe married Arizona Parker and their children are: Malinda, Russell, Wilburn, (who was killed in WW II), Donnie, Walsie Mae, Homer, and Vernon Ray. Fate married Virgie Turney and their children are: Ulis, D. L., and a daughter. George married Mary Parker, sister of Arizona, and their children are: Harvey, Ernie, Columbus, E. G., Virgie, Ivon, Odessie, Aline, and Fay. Maude married Gordon Copeland and their children are: Paul, Archie, Jim, Blanche, and Dorothy. Grove and Etta were never married.
