Ed Gilbert was born May 4, 1837, and died May 8, 1897. He was married to Nancy Polly Swafford who was born May 5, 1847, and died February 15, 1900.
Ed Gilbert fought for the Union Army through the Civil War. After the war he came home and married his childhood sweetheart, a wealthy Southern Belle. Because of political differences with their families in Tennessee, the young couple decided to move west and leave their war memories behind. Although the Swaffords begged them to stay, they packed their belongings and headed for White River in Arkansas. They settled on White River southeast of Oakland, Arkansas, at the Narrows and spent their lives there. They are buried in the Promised Land Cemetery near Oakland. Their children were: Soloman (Bud) who married Elizabeth Lance, whose children were: Millie, Ed, Albert, Dellar, Maude, Eliza, Nellie, Bluford, Ernest, Don, Robert and Silas; Nancy married Ike Weaver and they moved to New Mexico and reared a family there; Alford married Ollie Weaver and they moved to Texas and reared a family; Linda married William Denton and their children are: Judy, Cuba, Tobe, Floyd and Eula; Ida married John Denton and their children were: Bert, Dave, Nancy, Dulcie, Jeff , Jack, Gillie, Sarah and Willard; Ed married Dora Pasco and their children were: Carrie, Flora, Flossie, Letha, Linda and Allen; Allen married Nancy (Sis) Bryant and their children were: Roy Eugene, Ida, Fred, John Elba, Elzie and Anna; John married Nettie Builin and they had no children; Jefferson (Bunk) married Mae McCracken. After her death, he married Eliza Lantz. Their children were John, Eula, Eunice, Ralph, Carlos, Neva, Nell and Luna Fay.
